EHS Officer Job

Mabati Rolling Mills Ltd (MRM) is the flagship company of SAFAL GROUP, which is the leading manufacturer of flat and long steel products in Africa. Safal was incorporated to consolidate the operation of several allied companies in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, South Africa, Zambia, Angola and Malawi. The group’s companies have Galvanizing lines in Kenya , Uganda and Tanzania. We run the Aluminium -Zinc and Color Coating lines in Kenya, thus we are the first Company to implement the Aluminium-Zinc technology in Africa. In Kenya, the service centres are at Thika, Mombasa,Kisumu + Kisii.

MRM Mariakani is seeking to recruit a professional and experienced individual to fill the position of an Environmental, Health and Safety Officer.

Overall Purpose of the Position:

  1. Actively drive the implementation and sustenance of the EHS Management System.
  2. Promote a safe working culture amongst personnel through EHS awareness promotion and training.

Specifications

  1. Perform EHS site inspections to ensure compliance with the safety processes and policies as guided by EHS plans.
  2. Enforce compliance to Health, Safety & environment policies, procedures, rules and regulations to all employees and concerned parties.
  3. Participate in the development of health & safety guidelines, communications, safe systems of work and standard operating procedures.
  4. Regularly review, update and communicate Health, Safety & environment policies, procedures, rules and regulations to all employees and concerned parties.
  5. Ensure the Company complies with its statutory obligations in areas pertaining to health, safety, environment, statutory trainings, audits, wastes disposal, firefighting appliances inspections and reporting.
  6. Ensure risk assessments are done as per the company plans.
  7. Ensure that all accidents/incidents are documented, investigated and recommended corrective/preventive actions are implemented.
  8. Carry out induction trainings to all new employees and visitors on EHS as required.
  9. Ensure that safety inspections are carried out, risk assessments SOPs are managed and employees are aware of their responsibilities.
  10. Actively participate in enhancing compliance to ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 standards requirements.
  11. Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health, safety & welfare at work legislation and communicate relevant changes to management.
  12. Provide relevant information for monthly EHS reports.
  13. Accountable for supervision, administration and record keeping on area specific EHS audits, inspections, reports, certifications, permits to works, etc.
  14. Maintain record of all EHS compliance permits, licenses and certifications.
  15. Coordinates with other departments the application of a ‘Permit to Work System’ for all activities requiring permits.
  16. Supervise the EHS improvement activities implementation.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering field from a recognized institution.
  2. At least 3 years relevant experience in a similar position, preferably in the manufacturing industry.
  3. Conversant with ISO 14001: 2015 and ISO 45001: 2018.
  4. Ability to develop, evaluate, and implement site specific EHS programs, trainings, policies and practices.
  5. Ability to research, investigate alternative solutions and recommend needed change
  6. Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
  7. Proficiency in MS Office.
