Based in Bristol, Vermont USA, Wells Mountain Initiative (WMI) fosters social change at the local level by building a global network of grassroots leaders who are catalyzing community transformation. Over the last 15 years, they have built a global core of 479 leaders who are leading effective change in their home countries.  They have chosen scholars from 47 countries, although a majority (83%) are from Sub-Saharan Africa. OVERALL JOB PURPOSE:

WMI is seeking a seasoned professional with a deep network of relationships to scale partnerships and funding relationships with philanthropic foundations, corporations, multilateral agencies, and other key social sector actors in order to build WMI’s global brand presence and revenue base.

The Global Partnerships Director, as the principal fundraising strategist, will partner with the Executive Director to develop new foundation and corporate revenue streams. The position will lead fund development to support our strategic programmatic plans and goals, with a goal of increasing annual revenue 25% annually over the next 3 years.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and forward-thinking leadership for the development function including: developing and communicating clear long- and short-term strategic plans, and implementing and maintaining a structured fundraising program.
  • Help build and expand our governance and advisory boards to foster diversity, global representation and stronger connections with leading philanthropic entities, including foundations and corporations.
  • Design and implement creative and comprehensive acquisition, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for major institutional and individual donors.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director and Board in preparing for donor meetings through strategy development, support materials, and coaching.
  • Seek new foundation, individual and corporate funding sources and maintain/build relationships with current and past donors both personally and as part of an organizational effort.
  • Position WMI strategically through conference presentations, networking with high-calibre philanthropic players, media placements and publications
  • Oversee development activities, including individual giving, and corporate and foundation giving.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven track record of meeting/exceeding revenue goals at a growing nonprofit organization.
  • Proven track record for positioning global organizations’ mission and unique value-add within the field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to serve as a key spokesperson for WMI.
  • Previous experience fundraising through individual, corporate and foundation.
  • Demonstrated success in securing new major gifts and foundation funding.
  • Experience with fundraising for international organizations/causes
  • Strategic in thinking and orientation, with demonstrated ability to develop detailed development plans, actively use those plans and meet set goals.
  • Flexibility, and the skills to deal quickly with emergent issues.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google docs, as well as database management and usage.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, creative problem solver, and strong collaborator.
