Job Title: Pharmacy Supervisor

Location / Work station: Kibera

Working Hours: Monday – Friday | 8.00 AM – 4.00PM, 2 Saturdays a month

Reporting Relationships

Reports to: Health Manager

Direct reports: Pharmaceutical Technologists

Job Purpose:

To be responsible for checking prescriptions to ensure that there are no errors, dispensing medications by compounding, packaging, and labelling pharmaceuticals and ensuring that they are appropriate and safe for the individual patient and providing advice on the dosage of medicines.

Key Responsibilities and Job Dimensions


  • Oversee staff pharmacy staff leadership and operations
  • Help in formulating, developing, implementing and reviewing pharmacy services’ policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Set standards and quality assurance systems in the provision of pharmacy services.
  • Prepare the pharmacy for inspection, by ensuring the pharmacy meets requirements before inspection and oversee inspection process together with health director.
  • Maintain drug and supply orders, from domestic private companies and foreign charitable organizations
  • Compile feedback reports for the organization after relevant inspection and spear head implementation of recommendations
  • Ensure licensing and accreditation of the pharmacy
  • Ensure the Pharmacy maintains pharmaceutical standards procedures and policies
  • Design and develop relevant pharmacy SOPs
  • Ensure all equipment and other supplies are requested, availed and maintained as required
  • Budget for the pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical supplies and ensure
  • Constant supplies with minimum to zero wastages in the department
  • Ensure proper data capturing processes, storage and timely monthly reports from the pharmacy department
  • Maintain standards and policies relevant to the pharmacy
  • Ensure yearly renewal for the Pharmacy license
  • Provide timely reports needed from the pharmacy
  • Ensure quality standards are maintained in the pharmacy

Job Competencies (Knowledge, Experience and Attributes / Skills).

Academic Qualifications

·         Diploma in Pharmacy

Professional Qualifications

·         Enrolled member of the Pharmacy and Poisons Board

·         Member of the Kenya Pharmaceutical Association

Other required qualifications (unique/job specific)

·         At least 3 years’ experience of cumulative relevant experience leadership

·         Leadership and Management certification

·         Weekly and monthly stock registers and stock movement reports

·         Well, maintained key documentation and registers needed in the pharmacy
